Adoption FAQs1. I live more than 4 hours away -- can I still adopt an animal? We occasionally adopt animals who are difficult to place outside of our adoption zone, if we find an exceptional home. We never ship animals long-distance. 2. Do you have any well-trained horses for my kids to take lessons on? Most of the horses who find their way to CAS need TLC to aid in their emotional and physical recovery. We rarely know a horse's training history when he/she arrives. Many have great temperaments and with training may be appropriate. 3. How long does the adoption process take? Once we've received your completed adoption form we'll call you to discuss animals who may be suitable for your family. We will schedule appointments both for you to meet our animals and for an adoption representative to conduct a home/farm visit. On average this takes about 2 weeks, but may be more or less depending on your schedule. 4. I'm a teacher. Can I adopt a rabbit as a classroom pet? No, but if your adopted rabbit has the right temperament and your students have received instruction on proper care and handling, your bunny may enjoy occasional visits. 5. Are businesses allowed to adopt animals? Any business situation that is not in the best interest of the animal is disqualified, for example: petting zoos, pony rides, or trail riding companies. Animals who are primarily pets, but who sometimes work as therapy animals can be wonderful situations. |
