Adoption Requirements
General requirements for adoptive homes:
- be within a 2-hour drive of CAS
- provide suitable shelter and pasture space for all animals in their care
- abide by our non-breeding policy
- no barbed wire fencing, except for cows
- provide routine veterinary, farrier, and dental care
- agree to a pre-adoption home/farm visit and unannounced follow up visits
- understand that adoptions are for the full natural life span of the animal -- no selling or transferring, and absolutely no slaughter!
- own your own home and be full-time residents. Weekenders will be considered only if a full-time caretaker lives on the premises.
- with some rare exceptions, have another animal of the species you wish to adopt living at the home, so that your adopted animal will have a companion. Certain rare exceptions are made for animals who prefer to live alone.
Additional requirements by species:
Horses must have a minimum of 1 acre pasture space each (small ponies and minis may have less based on size). They cannot be stalled 24/7 except when receiving medical treatment. We do not adopt horses for competitive riding.
Rabbits may not be kept in small cages. Indoor or outdoor facilities may be suitable as long as they include a spacious hutch/cage and an exercise area (either rabbit-proofed indoor space or suitable fenced in yard).
Ducks and Geese must have access to a fenced pond. The pond may be enclosed within a perimeter fence or a section of the pond may be fenced off for their use. Open water and kiddie pools are not acceptable.
